On behalf of my colleagues at the Office of the Comptroller General of Canada,
I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to the Financial Management
Institute of Canada and all of its members, past and present, for contributing
to fifty years of financial management excellence in the public sector across
Canada.
The Financial Management Institute is a unique not-for-profit organization
that brings together thousands of volunteers who are passionate and dedicated
financial professionals from all public sector domains across Canada –
municipal, provincial, or federal public service bodies. It is this rich diversity of
membership, striving towards a common objective, which has contributed to its
long-term success and reputation. Local chapters have responded to the training
needs of their communities whereas the national organization has ensured
excellence through its annual conferences, professional journal, and webinars.
The financial management community within the Government of Canada has
had a close partnership with the Financial Management Institute for many
years. My team and I rely on the Institute’s input, expertise, and support of key
initiatives such as the implementation of the recent Policy on Internal Control.
The Financial Management Institute assists my office greatly by reaching
a broad audience, including people from all levels of the public and private
sectors, and its events give us all an opportunity to network, share ideas
and learn. It serves as an extremely important partner for us in building the
financial management capacity of the Government of Canada and developing our
community.
During the past fifty years, the volunteer members behind the Financial
Management Institute have been recognized as leaders in the domain of
financial management. Whether leading wide-scale public sector change
initiatives or providing financial advice for public sector programs, its members
have worked selflessly and tirelessly towards financial management excellence,
undaunted by the work or challenges encountered. Congratulations to all of you
for your dedication and your significant achievements throughout the past fifty
years!
I wish you a memorable fiftieth anniversary celebration at Professional
Development Week in November 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario, and continued success
during the next fifty years!
