What a long winter!!! The Nation’s
Capital had its fair share of snow
and then some. Even the overjoyed
skiers and snowboarders have had
enough. To say the National Office
is looking forward to making its
way to Charlottetown is putting it
mildly. But there is a lot more to
accomplish before then.
With the implementation of
National’s new Governance struc-
ture, many recommendations
have been proposed, some of them
requiring approval at the upcoming Board meeting, and
some not. In all cases, these recommendations are designed
to take the management of FMI strongly into the future.
One of the recommendations implemented immediately
supported the leadership of the FMI National Office by the
newly-created position of Chief Executive Officer, replacing
the existing Managing Director. As a result, on January 20th
FMI bid adieu to its dedicated Managing Director, Don
Singer. For the past six years, Don was the go-to guy, involving
himself in just about every FMI initiative, striving to make
the organization indispensable… his valuable contributions
are endless. Without question, Don’s departure has left a void
with his fellow colleagues (… and, yes, family.)
In the interim, FMI has been fortunate enough to have
former Past Presidents, Cheryl Munro and Germain
Tremblay at the helm keeping National Office grounded
during the transition. We thank them both for their faith in
FMI and willingness to jump into the fray. Of course, having
two Cheryl’s in an office of five came with its own set of
obstacles. Monikers, “Cheryl1” and “Cheryl2” were quickly
adopted with minimal effort. Cheryl Munro stayed on board
until mid-April at which time personal plans “dragged” her
to Victoria (… yes, it was still snowing in Ottawa,) leaving
behind a smitten National office staff. Germain Tremblay is
currently at the helm, sharing his time between FMI and his
consulting commitments. A welcome addition to the team,
Germain provides support to the Executive Committee
in all staffing and administration
matters as required, but regretfully,
is not a Sens fan!
FMI National is pleased to
announce the appointment of Mr.
MathieuLangelier asChief Executive
Officer, effective June 16th. Mathieu
joins FMI from the Hamilton-
Halton Home Builders’ Association.
As Executive Officer and General
Manager, he helped lead HHHBA
to a stellar 2013 year which earned
them the prestigious industry award of Local Association
of the Year. With more than ten years of experience in the
non for profit and financial institutions sectors, Mathieu is a
firm believer in ethics and integrity, a determined leader who
possesses strong capacities in long term strategic planning,
organizational change, and establishing long lasting business
partnerships. Originally from Montreal, Mathieu has spent
the past five years in the GTA and is keen to relocate to
Ottawa with his wife and expectant family. He is a graduate of
the Université du Québec - École nationale d’Administration
publique (ENAP) in Quebec City.
The National Office has had a hectic six months. PD
Week 2013 was deemed a phenomenal success. Upholding
PD Week’s reputation as an unmatched one-stop learning
experience, PD Week 2013 did not disappoint. Over 4,000
delegates were hosted at the Ottawa Convention Centre
soaking up knowledge shared by some 62 speakers in 18
separate learning streams. The team has actively been
working on PSMW 2014 in Charlottetown at the end of
May, PDWeek 2014 in Ottawa at the end of November, and
PSMW 2015 in Victoria next May. Social media activity is at
an all-time high and the efforts of FMI’s dedicated tweeters
and bloggers are very much appreciated.
FMI has finally taken the plunge and has converted the

That being said, it is with much anticipation that this issue
finds its readers enjoying the convenience of the fmi
