Editor’s message
A word (or two) from the Editor
Well, here we are with our first electronic fmi
*
igf
Journal. After many years the FMI has decided to take
the giant leap forward and make the Journal purely
electronic. I must say this is inevitable. When you look
around you see all types of documents being distributed
in non-traditional ways. I can remember when we got
thick user manuals with all the appliances, the software,
the computers and the printers that we bought. Now
it’s a CD if we’re lucky or you’re asked to go to a web
site to download the manual if you really need it.
In this edition we have our usual contributors. Unfortunately, Bruce Manion’s
column will be his last. As he puts it “At the ripe old age of 55, I am calling it quits.”
We are indebted to him for all his columns and his insight. He will be missed.
However, that does open up an opportunity for somebody to take over Bruce’s reins
and start to write a column with their own thoughts and opinions. Any offers?
In this edition we have an interesting article written by Bill Galbraith on John
Buchan, Lord Tweedsmuir, and our 15th Governor General. It’s a little different
from the normal articles we have in the Journal. From the article you can see that the
more things change, the more they stay the same. His problems were very similar to
the ones we face today.
We also have an article on internal controls, a subject near and dear to our hearts.
This is the start of a series of articles on this subject. I’d love to hear your comments
on this important topic.
Looking ahead, Public Sector Management Workshop (PSMW 2014) is at the end
of May in Charlottetown. I hope to meet many of you there and maybe, just maybe,
I can persuade one or two of you to be a contributor to the fmi
*
igf Journal.
All the best for a good spring and summer,
