Edmonton Capital Region
Chapter News
(Formerly Alberta Chapter)
The Edmonton Capital Region has had a busy Winter and
Spring.
In February, an event titled “Auditors in the Public Sector
Organizations” was enjoyed by all. It was a panel discussion
that included the Auditor General of Alberta, Merwan
Saher; the City of Edmonton’s Auditor, David Wiun; and,
Rachel Gosse, a partner with Deloitte.
After the February event, FMI 50th Anniversary award
recipient, Lucia Stachurski, a former Chapter and National
President, was formally recognized as one of the people who
helped shape FMI.
To conclude the 2013‑2014 programming schedule, the
Chapter is hosting an event titled “The Public Sector P in
P3s” on May 21st. Perspectives will be shared by represen-
tatives of the federal (PWGSC;) provincial (Alberta Infra-
structure;) and, municipal (City of Edmonton) governments;
plus, union (CUPE Alberta;) and, private sector (EPCOR.)
The panel, with moderator Dr. Robert Ascah of the Institute
for Public Economics (University of Alberta,) will discuss
the concepts of Public and Private Partnerships in funding
major infrastructure projects.
As some individuals enter the elected term phase of the
bylaws, there will be some changes in positions on the
Chapter’s Board of Directors. The Board will continue to
plan its events that appeal to its municipal, provincial and
federal audience. It is proud to continue its collaboration
with the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC)
Edmonton Chapter, who will be hosting their National
Conference, June 1 – 4, in Edmonton.
